Bostic Trucking & Excavating

Southtown

Bostic Trucking & Excavating proudly served as the prime general contractor for Phase 1 of the Southtown Court redevelopment, now known as Edgehill at Southtown. This ambitious project stands as a cornerstone in Birmingham’s southside district, marking a transformative step in economic and housing development. Our leadership in this endeavor turned 80-year-old public housing units into a vibrant mixed-use development, encompassing housing, green spaces, office spaces, and retail areas, all within a walkable distance for community for residents.

The Southtown project was a flagship endeavor for Bostic Trucking and Excavating, showcasing our ability to handle large-scale, multifaceted demolition and site preparation tasks. This project spanned over 20 acres and involved the demolition of 49 significant structures, each with its own set of challenges, including the safe and effective management of hazardous materials and extensive infrastructure installation.

Our team began the project with meticulous asbestos abatement across the 49 buildings, ensuring the removal and proper disposal of all hazardous materials. The demolition phase then commenced, where we successfully dismantled 310,000 square feet of building space, transforming a once-densely built area into a cleared site ready for redevelopment.

Southtown also involved significant infrastructure work. We undertook the installation of new underground utilities, ensuring the site was fully prepared for future residential or commercial development. The project also included comprehensive mass grading to create a stable, even surface across the entire 20-acre site.

Our commitment to environmental responsibility was evident in the significant material recycling efforts throughout the project. We were able to reclaim a vast amount of building materials, including over a million bricks, which were salvaged for reuse or resale. This not only minimized waste but also provided valuable resources for future construction.

The project concluded with detailed site restoration, including the placement of topsoil, seeding, and erosion control measures. These steps ensured that the land was left in optimal condition, ready for whatever future developments lie ahead.

The Southtown project is a prime example of Bostic Trucking and Excavating's comprehensive service offerings, from hazardous material management and demolition to infrastructure installation and environmental stewardship. It highlights our ability to manage large, complex projects efficiently, safely, and with a keen eye on sustainability.
