Groundbreaking Solutions For A Solid Future
Pell City Airport T-Hanger
Project Overview
Pell City Airport T-Hangar Expansion
The expansion of the Pell City Airport T-Hangar was a vital project aimed at enhancing the airport's capacity to accommodate more aircraft. Given the airport's strategic importance for regional connectivity, this project played a significant role in supporting local aviation and economic growth.
Scope of Work:
Site Undercut and Material Export:
Due to the high water table and poor soil composition at the site, a complete undercut of the area was factored into the project when it was designed. All unsuitable materials were expertly removed and exported, ensuring a clean, stable base for the new construction.Geogrid and Stone Placement:
Following the undercut, geogrid was installed to reinforce the ground. This was followed by the placement of stone, which helped stabilize the soil and provided a robust foundation for the hangar pad. This strategic layering approach was essential in overcoming the challenging ground conditions and preventing future settlement issues.Engineered Fill Capping:
To further enhance the stability and load-bearing capacity of the hangar pad, a cap of engineered fill was meticulously applied. This layer served as a protective cover, ensuring that the site could support the weight and operational demands of the new T-hangar structure.Apron Undercut and Stone Capping:
In addition to the hangar pad, the connecting aprons to the taxiways required specific attention. These areas were undercut and then capped with stone, creating durable, erosion-resistant surfaces that facilitate smooth aircraft movement and reduce maintenance needs.Erosion Control Measures:
Erosion control measures were installed throughout the project to protect the newly developed site from potential environmental impacts. These measures were vital in maintaining site integrity and preventing soil erosion during and after the construction process.
Overview:
The Pell City Airport T-Hangar Expansion posed several challenges, primarily due to the high water table and less than optimal soil conditions. Undertaking a complete site undercut and managing the export of materials required precise planning and execution. Furthermore, the installation of geogrid and stone placement, followed by a cap of engineered fill, necessitated meticulous attention to detail to ensure the long-term stability of the hangar pad.
